How to find a job in advertising?

Finding a stable career in this area is not as easy as it sounds. Despite that, there are a good number of job vacancies, which is almost more than any other career, but the number of job seekers is way more than that. My personal suggestion to you as someone who is willing to work in this field is that you have to be tough, persistent, with a thick skin and self-confidence that you are better than others.

Here I mentioned the ways that you can take to have a job in advertising.

1. It's better to have a degree in advertising

Despite all the things that you might hear on the Internet that companies are less looking for a degree in your resume, but let's be honest, the majority of them still are requiring a degree in this field. The Degree Also in media, Graphic, analysis, and management would be ok.
However, it is not a must, but you need to consider that without a degree, your path is bumpy as hell.

2. Prepare a good portfolio for yourself

I am sure that if you are looking for a job in this sector, you most probably have a small experience in that. You might have had a social media business page, run some promotion, have your own blog, or di some freelancing, Hence, instead of posting them and then ignoring those posters or articles, try to make a portfolio for yourself, and put your best ones in it. You will need it later.

3. Contact all agencies and TV companies

Do not limit yourself to applying online. You should be persistent and prove that you deserve a job in an advertising agency. Try to Email them, call them, ask them for an interview, even do some free job for them. you Should push yourself through the company and do whatever you can to convince them to hire you.

4. Be Up to date

This Career is permanently growing because people always get used to a sort of advertising and they might wanna see something new to buy. You have to be in self-learning mode, even if you got your degree in a respectful university. You Should read as many articles as possible, have daily training apart from your daily job, do training every day, and try to be on the edge all the time. Imagine yourself as a Football player that suppose to be in its best condition all the time.

5. Start your job as an intern

Working as an intern is one of the best decisions that someone can make. It has some reason behind it. Firstly, an intern works for almost free, or a low wage. In this condition, the advertising agency takes all the energy from an intern and give him as many tasks as possible. You should be prepared for that. On the other hand, it gives you valuable experience, and you will be a step ahead of others and it is possible that the agency finally hires you after the period is over. Even if they do not, you got some experience and can use it in the future.

6. Find people in charge

Thanks to the Linkedin, a professional social media that connects the employers to employees, you can easily find the top-level managers or recruiters in this business. try to not be so friendly with them, nor so official. Start by messaging them, or email them if you could, show them your portfolio(you need it here exactly!!) and after a while, you can even might have a meeting with them.
This way had some positive answers for me personally.

7.Grow your network

You might hear the Networking, and it's what that you need right now. Networking is the art of connecting yourself, introducing, and in some part, selling yourself to a certain employer. The way is not complicated, nor easy.

First, open up a professional alike account, fill it with your portfolios, and start posting, commenting, and asking for connection. Do not connect with people and let them be there. You should have an informative connection. Have a discussion, even an argument about something would be good.
If you point out an idea On a certain occasion, and if the employer finds it useful, then maybe you will be the next employee in the respective company.

What skills Does an advertiser need to have?

it has to be said that an advertiser is a multi-tasking guy is most of the time. However, after a while that you improved in your career and promoted, then it's advised to focus on a particular skill and master in it.

Anyway, these skills below are the most important skills that anyone in advertising should have.

  • Communication skill
  • Persuasion skill
  • Networking skill
  • Innovation and creativity
  • Ability to work smoothly with computer
  • Passionate about advertising
  • Hardworking
  • High level of tolerance
  • Ability to work in deadlines
  • ability to being criticized
  • Obsessive on doing job neatly
  • Designing skills

In the end, despite all the toughness that you might read in this article, frankly speaking, advertising is a really good job with a high salary, which in European fusion, a normal employee in this field will earn minimum of 27000 Euro annually.

I wish all of you potential advertisers, a successful career, and triumph.
